The John Smith Centre is delighted to have been nominated in the Campaigner of the Year category at the inaugural Civility in Politics Awards.
The Awards aim to shine a spotlight on people working in politics who have shown the possibility for civil, thoughtful and reflective public debate that reaches across political divides. They were established in 2019 by a cross-party group of politicians and campaigners committed to celebrating civilised political discourse.
The judging panel and steering committee is made up of figures from across the political spectrum, who were brought together to create shortlists of nominees in three categories; Politician of the Year, Bridge Builders of the Year, and Campaigner of the Year.
There are twenty nominees across the three categories, including Anand Menon (Director of UK in a Changing Europe) the Jo Cox Foundation, former MP Ken Clarke, and SNP Shadow Chancellor Alison Thewliss MP, who will be giving an employability Q&A at the John Smith Centre in March.
Director of the John Smith Centre, Kezia Dugdale, welcomed the news, saying:
“We are absolutely delighted that our work promoting civilised debate and making the positive case for representative democracy has been recognised by the Civility in Politics Awards. We believe that politics can be a force for good, and we will continue to campaign and build on John Smith’s legacy of public service.”
The Award winners will be announced on 18th March at a ceremony held in Central London. The John Smith Centre wishes the best of luck to all our fellow nominees.
