On March 30 2022, the John Smith Centre held its first Annual Reception at the Scottish Parliament, hosted by Bob Doris MSP. We were delighted to be joined by supporters, programme participants, mentors, MSPs and friends.

The First Minister presented Megan Moffat with her John Smith Public Service Award. Meghan is one of seven young people taking part in the programme in partnership with the Robertson Trust. Nicola Sturgeon MSP also met with Sabah Aslam and Ross Barclay, two other programme participants, and Baroness Elizabeth Smith. We are extremely grateful for the time the First Minister gave to speak to them about their experiences.

Following the award presentation, speeches were given at the reception by Bob Doris MSP, Centre Director, Kezia Dugdale, Sabah Aslam, Ross Barclay, and the Chair of the John Smith Centre, Catherine Smith QC. We would like to express our thanks to Ross and Sabah for addressing the reception and giving such honest accounts of their time time on our internship programmes. It was fantastic to hear the work they’ve been undertaking and what they’re learning from it.

We were pleased so many of our supporters and programme participants had the chance to meet in person and speak. Our thanks go to Bob Doris MSP for hosting the event and the Scottish Parliament. We hope to repeat the success of the night again soon.
