We are delighted to welcome Dr Joe Greenwood-Hau to the John Smith Centre.
Joe takes on a new post here at the University of Glasgow as the Centre’s first ever lecturer. In the coming academic year, he will be teaching the UK Youth Poll course to honours students, giving undergraduates the chance to learn about polling and design polling questions. The aim is for our annual poll, which was rolled out earlier this year, to become a survey about young people, by young people –created here by staff and students of the University of Glasgow.
Joe joins us from Edinburgh University where he has been working as a lecturer in politics (quantitative methods). Prior to that he had roles as a postdoctoral fellow of the British Academy, at the London School of Economics, and at the polling company YouGov. His extensive experience in teaching survey methods, conducting academic survey research and in the polling industry makes him exceptionally well suited to the new position.

“I am incredibly excited to join the John Smith Centre as a lecturer focusing on the annual UK Youth Poll. The work of the Centre on empowering diverse voices to get involved in politics aligns closely with my interest in the reasons for political (non-)participation, and the launch of the UK Youth Poll filled an important gap in public opinion research in the UK. I can’t wait to start working on the Youth Poll, to teach students how to design and manage public-facing survey research, and to work with them to help make the voices of young people in the UK heard.”
