How female friendly are our parliaments and how far are women taken into account when policies are made? How does the Scottish Parliament compare to the European Parliament when it comes to representation, both for women and minority groups?

These are some of the questions being addressed in one-day workshop with current and former parliamentarians, along with key academics in this field. Topics to be discussed include the process of conducting a gender audit of the Scottish Parliament; parliamentary leadership in the Scottish Parliament; feminist politics and institutional racism and normative whiteness in the European Parliament.

Our Centre Director, Kezia Dugdale, will chair the first panel with Dr Meryl Kenney, Dr Fiona McKay, Dr Jenny Morrison and Laura Shaw. Contributors for the afternoon panel include Pam Duncan-Glancy MSP, Kaukab Stewart MSP, Elspeth Attwooll and Julie Ward.

This is a hybrid event on Friday 10 March 2023 from 9am until 3.30pm with three panel discussions.
