Apply now »Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the creation of video content for the Centre’s initiatives, including scripting, writing interview questions, filming, editing, and adding captions. This includes producing engaging materials, for example ‘Day in the Life’ features, interviews with MSPs, participant reflections, and promotional explainers.
- Develop and support video and social media content production across a range of programmes and initiatives, including the UK Youth Poll, the Parliamentary Internship Programme, public events, the Research & Insights blog, and other employability and development activities. This may involve capturing interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, and teaser content tailored to each initiative.
- Support the Centre in directing its message to young people and beyond via its main social media channels: BlueSky, TikTok, Instagram, X, LinkedIn and YouTube
- Collaborate with staff across the University where necessary to develop and deliver impactful media content for the Centre.
- Support the Centre’s digital storytelling and strategic outreach efforts, ensuring all content reflects the Centre’s mission and engages target audiences effectively.
- Attend weekly team meetings and work closely with the Research & Engagement Manager to ensure progress and alignment with project goals.
- Apply initiative and judgement to resolve technical and creative challenges independently.
- Ensure high standards and professionalism in all communications and outputs.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge & Qualifications
Essential:
A1 HNC, VQ 3, Higher Grades, City & Guilds, or equivalent.
A2 A good understanding of video content creation for social media
Desirable:
B1 A good understanding of the effective operation of social media for the purposes of promotion and engagement
B2 Understanding of public service and its value to society.
Skills
Essential:
C1 Proficiency in video production and editing.
C2 Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
C3 Experience with social media and digital platforms.
C4 Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
C5 Accuracy and attention to detail.
Desirable:
D1 Creative approach to storytelling and audience engagement.
Experience
Essential:
E1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills through related coursework or university activities.
E2 Proven ability to create digital content for outreach or engagement.
E3 Experience working in a team environment and task prioritisation.
Desirable:
F1 Experience in political communication or public engagement.
Other
Flexible approach to workload content is required. Evening and weekend work is necessary at times. Occasional travel may be required. Access to confidential and sensitive information, which needs to be treated with discretion and in accordance with University guidelines and Data Protection legislation
Terms and Conditions
This role is for 7 hours a week for 10 weeks, one day per week which can be split over two half days (starting mid/end January to March 2026). Attendance on Wednesday mornings is necessary for the role.
UofG Salary Scale Grade 5 (£27,319 per annum, pro rata)
