The John Smith Centre is delighted to have become an SCQF Inclusive Recruiter.

The SCQF is Scotland’s national qualifications framework and provides a way of recognising, describing and comparing the difficulty and notional time taken to achieve a whole range of qualifications and learning programmes. In addition to mainstream qualifications, the SCQF also contains vocational and skills-based qualifications, and learning programmes developed and delivered in the workplace or community.

By using the SCQF levels in our recruitment processes for our staff and development programme roles going forward, we hope to significantly widen the pool of applicants who have a variety of qualifications or skills and experience at the levels that we are looking for and ensure that our opportunities are open to the widest number of people possible.

Director of the John Smith Centre Kezia Dugdale said, “The John Smith Centre exists to break down the barriers people face accessing politics and public life. Sometimes those are traditional qualifications and old-fashioned one-dimensional journeys into particular vocations or industry. The SCQF creates a level playing field; that’s why we are proud to use it as the basis of how we recruit our staff at the Centre and indeed all the people we recruit on to our internship and development programmes.”
