13 new interns about to start their journey with the John Smith Centre and Scottish Parliament

We are delighted to announce this year’s cohort for our Parliamentary Internship Programme. Our interns bring a wide breadth of fresh talent with interest in human rights, international relations, social policy and beyond.

Our 13 interns have a passion for politics and a desire to gain practical experience to go beyond their theoretical knowledge. Many of them have engaged in community projects and invested their time and energy into causes such as fighting homelessness, tackling gender-based violence and countering climate change. Their variety of experience and interests promises engaging discussions and fruitful placements.

Each intern has been placed with an MSP from four major parties: SNP, Labour, Conservatives and the Greens. They will work part-time in their respective MSP’s constituency office from across Greater Glasgow or the Northeast of Scotland where they will get to develop a range of workplace relevant skills and an appreciation for the value of a career in public service.

The Parliamentary Internship Programme runs between January and Aril 2024. The interns will receive training and support throughout their placement, membership in our Alumni Network and be paid above the Real Living Wage. The Programme has been running since 2017, providing close to 100 interns with the opportunity to dive deeper into Scotland’s political landscape.

This year’s programme will kick off with a welcome day at the Scottish Parliament hosted by the Chief Executive David McGill on 18 January 2024.
